Your summer learning checklist
Bring the right questions to your shortlist, from academic credit and language to housing and local life.

Bring the same questions to every option.
Keep the official program pages open as you compare. For each topic, note what you found, the source, and anything you want the provider to clarify. Check a topic when you have reviewed it.
If academic credit matters
Ask the provider for a syllabus, teaching hours, assessment details, and information about its transcript. Share these with your home institution and ask what approval is needed before you apply.
Waseda’s course and credit information (opens in a new tab) is a useful example of why earning credits and transferring them are separate steps.
For teen learners and families
Compare the learning experience and the support around it. Ask who supervises activities, how accommodation works, how independent time is handled, and who a student or parent can contact during the program.
Check the provider’s current age requirements and what is included. A homestay, a residence, and a daily class schedule can each create a different experience.
Make your questions easy to answer.
“I’m interested in your [program and session] and currently study at [level]. Could you confirm [specific detail] and point me to the relevant official information?”
Keep the reply with your comparison notes. When your shortlist changes, revisit the topics that matter most to your learning goals and daily life.
